Bechtel has an extensive portfolio of decontamination and decommissioning nuclear and radioactively contaminated facilities. Our footprint reduction activities have demolished millions of square feet of contaminated structures.

Bechtel is part of the team that is decommissioning the Sellafield nuclear reactor site in the U.K. We are currently in the process of design, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning the system to remove legacy nuclear waste from aging above ground storage silos.

Oak Ridge Reservation
For more than 13 years, Bechtel led the environmental management contract team at this DOE facility, cleaning up areas of the 34,000-acre (13,759-hectare) site by decontaminating and demolishing hundreds of buildings and facilities.

Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory
Bechtel led the management, operations, and environmental restoration team, completing deactivation, decontamination, decommissioning, and demolition of 150 buildings and structures, reducing the site footprint by more than 400,000 square feet (37,161 square meters) and yielding a cost avoidance of more than $100 million.
