Bajio was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and U.S. Export-Import Bank. A consortium of commercial banks that included BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, Citibank and Dresdner Bank also helped fund the project. The facility was built by Bechtel Power under a turnkey contract.
In addition to the power facility, the Bajio project includes:
- A gas pipeline and the infrastructure to supply natural gas, which is connected to Pemex gas pipeline.
- A $4 million wastewater treatment facility that provides recycled cooling water for the plant as well as irrigation water for local farmers.
