Bechtel's Motion for Summary Judgement Granted

  • 13 January 2012

  • Press Release

A Benton County Superior Court judge in Washington state on January 10 dismissed the case Walt Tamosaitis filed against Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI). This case was the last remaining claim Mr. Tamosaitis had against Bechtel; he previously dropped Bechtel from another case.

"We respect the judge’s decision to dismiss this claim. Our focus remains on safely designing and building the Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) with the highest nuclear safety standards," said Bechtel National, Inc. spokesperson Jason Bohne. "We will continue working every day to ensure the strongest possible safety culture, which is critical in moving this important project forward."

BNI is designing and building the radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The plant, known as the Vit Plant, will immobilize the radioactive liquid waste currently stored in 177 underground tanks using a process called "vitrification."
