Bechtel, one of the world’s leading engineering, procurement and construction companies, announced today that its chief rigging engineer, J. Keith Anderson, was named a Top 25 Newsmaker for 2015 by Engineering News-Record magazine.
Anderson, a Bechtel Distinguished Engineer and Scientist, received the award for his work in raising the profile of rigging engineering worldwide. Among his recognized contributions: Anderson wrote a book two years ago, “Rigging Engineering Basics” and was instrumental in the development of the industry’s first accredited curriculum, “Fundamentals of Rigging Engineering,” which has attracted a growing online following across the industry.
According to Anderson, training resources for engineers and others who plan to engage in lifting and moving operations has not kept pace with the evolution of cranes and sophisticated, heavy-transport equipment.
“When you are lifting and moving things, you are dealing with considerable risk,” he said. “Training for people who plan and execute this type of work is critical.”
Noted James “J.Q.” Hicks, president of Bechtel Equipment Operations, “ENR’s recognition of Keith as a Top 25 Newsmaker is well deserved, and we are very proud of him. He is truly an industry expert who has been acknowledged worldwide for his proficiency in rigging engineering. Within Bechtel, Keith has assembled and manages one of the strongest rigging engineering teams of any EPC company. He is another example of what makes Bechtel a great company.”
