List Magazine Ranks Master Builder Among The 100 Most Influential People Of The 20th Century
The firm that Mr. Bechtel ran from 1933 to 1960 is this year celebrating its centennial. Saluting the organization's accomplishments, including many associated with Steve Bechtel, Sr., the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., has mounted an exhibit called "The Business of Innovation: Projects from Bechtel's First Century." Since 1898, four generations of Bechtels have led the privately held business through 19,000 projects in 140 nations on all seven continents. Revenues for 1997 totaled US$11.3 billion.
