Bechtel Infrastructure To Manage Construction For Jfk And Laguardia Airports
"We are especially proud to be a part of this milestone program to modernize and provide rail access to JFK," said Ed Richardson, president of Bechtel Infrastructure Corporation. "We look forward to assisting the Port Authority in meeting its vision for the region in the 21st century."
Airtrain is key to improving JFK, one of the world's busiest airports. This $1.5 billion project centers on linking the Central Terminal Area of JFK with the Long Island Rail Road and New York City Transit (NYCT) subway station complex in Jamaica, NY, and to the NYCT subway station at Howard Beach.
The Port Authority and Binfra will also oversee private investment and renovations at JFK. American Airlines and British Airways are building or expanding passenger terminals, and other airlines are building cargo facilities. Airport improvements continue at LaGuardia, where roadway, runway, and taxiway upgrades are contemplated.
Bechtel brings extensive program and construction management experience to this project. The firm just signed a contract to design and build a 5.5 mile extension of Portland's light rail system to the airport, and just wrapped up managing a terminal expansion at California's Ontario airport, completing the project four months ahead of schedule and $26 million under budget. Bechtel has enjoyed a long history with the Port Authority at JFK Airport, where the company has provided construction management services for a cogeneration plant, a new control tower and roadway improvements.
Bechtel, now celebrating its centennial year, is one of the world's most accomplished and experienced engineering, construction, and project management firms.
