Bechtel Earns Two Safety Awards

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will present its Gold Award for Occupational Safety Award for 1998 to Bechtel Water Technology of Warrington, and to its parent company, Bechtel Ltd. of London, at a May 14 ceremony in Birmingham. The award signifies Bechtel's "demonstrated commitment and leadership in helping to reduce the toll of death, injury, and ill-health at work," according to RoSPA officials.

On May 15, the British Safety Council will present Bechtel Water Technology and Bechtel Ltd. with National Safety Awards at ceremonies in London. These awards recognize low accident rates as well as each company's safety policies and guidelines, and their organizational commitment to an accident-free working environment.

"The National Safety Awards are a mark of proven and significant achievement," said Sir Neville Purvis, KCB, Director General of the British Safety Council. "By making safety an important feature of everyday work practice, Bechtel Water Technology is reducing accidents and ill health while improving productivity and profitability."

Bechtel Water Technology, based at Chadwick House, Risley, near Warrington, is the water engineering Centre of Excellence for Bechtel Group, Inc. This highly specialized team of engineering professionals is working on projects around the world, from new treatment plants in Fort William and Inverness to water and wastewater facilities in the Philippines. In the United Kingdom alone, Bechtel Water Technology is managing 550 projects.

Bechtel Ltd. is a three-time winner of the British Safety Council's highest award, the Sword of Honour, which is earned by companies using advanced techniques to effectively protect people, plants, and machinery. Increasingly, this award is being adopted by industry as the benchmark for effective safety standards.
