Bechtel And Método Form Joint Venture In Telecommunications Area

"BMT is structured to fulfill the needs of the new Brazilian telecommunications market with speed, efficiency, and safety," said Ricard Jose Ferreira, president of BMT.

BMT combines Bechtel's ability to mobilize quickly to complete large, complex projects around the world with Método's proven success in the Brazilian telecommunications market. BMT will offer services in cellular systems, microwave, fiber optic, data networks, and public switched telephone networks. It will capitalize on Bechtel's expertise in conceptual and program development; program management controls; site acquisition, engineering, furnishing, and installation; outside plant engineering and construction; and operation and maintenance services.
"This is a great opportunity for Bechtel," said Dennis Connell, Bechtel's general manager for Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. "We will be exposed to the local environment with a well-positioned partner, which speeds up the local operational know-how."

Bechtel Telecommunications is one of the Bechtel group of companies, providing a broad range of telecommunications engineering and construction services for 30 years. Método is one of the most prominent construction companies in Brazil, working in the telecommunications arena since 1985. Projects include the extension of the Barra da Tijuca telecommunications network in Rio de Janeiro and work on various projects for Sistema Telebras in Brazil.
