As demand for skilled craft professionals continues to grow across the United States, Bechtel is investing in the next generation of builders through Camp Build It, a free summer construction camp designed to introduce middle and high school girls across the Coastal Bend to careers in the skilled trades.
Delivered in partnership with the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend (CTC), the weeklong program returned this summer for its second year, offering two camp sessions between July 6 and July 17. More than doubling participation from 2025, 60 students participated across the two sessions, gaining hands-on experience in welding, pipefitting, and electrical installation while learning directly from women working in construction and the skilled trades.
“Camp Build It opens the door for local middle and high school girls to discover exciting, in demand careers in construction,” said Brittany Kaplan, Bechtel Energy Engineering Planning and Strategy Manager. “By connecting students with female craft professionals and providing hands-on experiences, we’re helping them see that these careers are not only attainable—they’re full of opportunity, growth, and purpose.”
Exploring careers in construction through Camp Build It at the Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project
This program supports Bechtel’s commitment to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Million Women in Construction pledge, which seeks to grow and strengthen female representation across the construction workforce. Through collaboration with communities, customers, and educational partners along the U.S. Gulf Coast—including Cheniere’s Corpus Christi Liquefaction facility—Bechtel is helping develop the next generation of craft professionals by strengthening local talent pipelines and creating pathways to rewarding careers in the skilled trades.
“The Craft Training Center has been a driving force in building the skilled workforce of the Coastal Bend for more than 35 years,” said Dr. Wayne Kelly, President of CTC. “Partnering with Bechtel for an all–girls Camp Build It is something we’re especially proud of—this hands–on experience has the power to inspire, empower, and truly change the trajectory of young women as they discover exciting careers in the skilled trades.”
The program concluded with a tour of Bechtel’s Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) Stage 3 project site, giving students a firsthand look at large-scale project delivery and the opportunities available within the industry.
“Camp Build It is more than just a summer camp—it’s a launchpad for future careers in construction,” said Justin Baker, Bechtel’s CCL Stage 3 Site Manager. “By helping middle and high school girls explore the industry today, we’re opening pathways to meaningful careers on projects, like the CCL Stage 3 megaproject, while reinforcing Bechtel’s commitment to our communities and to developing the next generation of skilled craft professionals.”
