David Wilson
Chief Innovation Officer
David J Wilson is chief innovation officer, and works in the Reston office. He was elected principal vice president in 2016.
David manages Bechtel’s Future Fund, a program designed to encourage colleagues across the company to create, share, explore and develop new ideas to enhance performance and competitiveness.
He joined Bechtel in 2001 as a mechanical systems engineer at the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant in Richland, Wash. Since then he has held positions of increasing responsibility with leadership roles as a Lean Six Sigma black belt and as manager of a telecommunications mobility project. His most recent role was as manager of innovation and virtual project delivery for the infrastructure global business unit.
David is a graduate of the University of Utah and received a master’s degree in 2006 in Engineering and Technology Management. He is a certified professional engineer and Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
In our experience, the best way to mature innovative solutions is to prototype them in a physical environment that closely reflects job site conditions, essentially a lab for designers and builders. Doing so results in a better understanding of integration complexity, the capabilities of the technology, and real versus theoretical benefit discrepancies, as well as the implications of how solutions might be deployed and scaled.
