Manager of Procurement and Contracts
Al Hankins is the manager of Procurement and Contracts. He has comprehensive responsibility for all supply chain operations, ranging from strategic planning and global supply assessments and forecasts to project staffing and oversight, across all of Bechtel’s global business units.
Previously, Al was the project commercial manager on the successful Gladstone Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) megaproject in Australia. Prior to this role, he was a contracts manager and project manager on the Angola LNG project, which was one of the largest lump-sum contracts in Bechtel at the time of award. Since joining Bechtel in 1999, Al has held various project management and supply chain management positions. His responsibilities have also involved home office commercial services, including project controls, prime contracts and subcontracts, and business ethics and compliance.
Al is a certified Six Sigma champion and a strong proponent of Six Sigma and Performance-based Leadership as powerful means for process and performance improvement. He actively participates in training, contracts workshops, and professional development to implement best practices and continuous improvement in contract management. He is a 15-year member of the Oil Gas & Chemicals business for the Houston Office Diversity Advisory Council. He also is a regular speaker at universities; industry panels, summits, and workshops; and internal diversity awareness training sessions and other HR-sponsored events.
Al earned his bachelor’s degree and law degree from Georgetown University. He has also studied at the London School of Economics and the University of Ghana School of Law.
