Treating and cleaning produced water to preserve freshwater supplies
Produced water is highly saline, meaning it’s often viewed as too costly to treat for reuse and is often disposed of untreated via permitted Salt Water Disposal wells. With the volume of produced water expected to grow by billions of barrels over the coming years, finding an economically viable solution is critical for enabling industry to help preserve freshwater resources.
To assist our customers with industrial water treatment and re-use, we have developed our patent-pending Low Energy Ejector Desalination System (LEEDS). LEEDS is a thermal desalination treatment process that has the capability to treat highly saline aqueous streams, such as produced water with salinity ranging from 4% to 20%.
A cleaner, more affordable water treatment process
Using a highly efficient ejector, LEEDS can treat produced water and other high dissolved wastewater for reuse at a lower overall cost than other solutions on the market, making it a viable financial option for oil and gas producers. LEEDS can also be used as a post treatment stage to reduce brine and waste volumes in industries such as mining and nuclear waste water treatment.
Traditional thermal evaporation processes rely on providing steam as an input to drive evaporation. LEEDS operates without the requirement for an external heat source. This means it is less expensive to build and operate, it can be effectively deployed at facilities which do not have available thermal energy (i.e. steam) and also provides a lower carbon environmental solution.

Helping the oil production and water midstream markets
- Reduce costs of produced water treatment per barrel
- Decrease carbon emissions
- Reduce the volume of produced water that is re-injected into wells
- Eliminate existing clean water demand costs

Reuse revenue opportunities
LEEDS can transform produced water into four 100% reusable, end-marketable products:
- Distilled water (re-used in drilling activities)
- Fertilizer/struvite (agriculture products)
- 10-pound brine (multiple industrial applications)
- Road salt (de-icing and dust suppression
