Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply for the Early Career Hire (ECH) Programme?

Graduates or final year undergraduates with at least a 2:1 (obtained or predicted) result in a relevant degree, or equivalent. Some of our roles will require you to have studied a specific degree, please check the vacancy for further information.

If I already have relevant work experience, can I join a later stage of the programme?

Yes, your prior experience will be taken into account during the recruitment process and you would join the programme in the appropriate year group. For example if you have 1 years relevant experience after graduation you will join the graduate programme with the current 2nd year group.

Note that our early career hire programme is aimed at graduates with 18months experience or less to meet the needs of graduates in the early stages of their career.

How do I apply?

All applications must be made online, this is so we can track your application and ensure that you remain visible in the process.

Can I apply for more than one position?

Yes, however please ensure that you have the qualification, skills and interest in the area you wish to apply for. You will be asked questions in the process as to why you wish to apply for the selected vacancy which will be reviewed therefore you will need to display genuine interest for the position(s) you decide to apply for.

How long will I have to wait before hearing about my application?

You will receive an acknowledgement email shortly after your online application, and will be kept informed of your progress through email correspondence. Please note that our first interview stage tends to be at the end of the year/beginning of the new year.

What can i expect from the recruitment process?

Our selection process is designed for you to get to know us and for us to get to know you, and we have created a process to truly reflect this. Please visit our recruitment page to find out what you might experience and why we have made the investment in this area.

What is a competency-based interview?

A competency-based interview focuses on experiences you have had and how you have handled certain situations. These could be from periods of previous employment, your university course, extracurricular activities, or social/sporting interests. This helps us understand your strengths in our key competencies and how you would perform as part of Bechtel's ECH Programme.
