Bechtel Engineer Recognized as Industry Role Model

Colleen Layman Receives SWE Emerging Leaders Award Bechtel engineer Colleen Layman has received the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) 2011 Emerging Leaders Award in Manufacturing and Construction. The Emerging Leaders Awards recognize women engineers for their technical excellence and serving as a role model in the industry.

As manager of the water treatment engineering group in Bechtel’s power division, Layman is involved in each of the company’s power projects around the world, and she has authored or co-authored 12 technical publications related to water/wastewater treatment for power generation facilities. In addition, Layman is active in several engineering organizations, including SWE in which she has held leadership positions

"This award means a lot to me because SWE is an important part of my career. Not only has it helped me grow professionally, but it also allows me to give back and work with young women who are just starting their engineering careers," said Layman. "I appreciate the recognition from SWE and Bechtel’s support of my involvement in the organization."
