Colleagues play important roles in communities

Bechtel today thanks colleagues at its affiliated government and commercial nuclear projects for donating more than $7 million and countless volunteer hours to stewardship efforts in their local communities in 2018. Efforts included economic development, fundraising for charities, toy and food drives, educational events, and several screenings of the movie “Dream Big: Engineering Our World,” of which Bechtel is a presenting sponsor.

“This is a testament to the spirit of community that’s so strong in our company and at our project sites,” said Barbara Rusinko, president of Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security & Environmental global business unit. “Our people truly care about the places where they live and work. I’m thankful to have them as colleagues and I know their communities are thankful for their continued generosity.”

Examples at Bechtel-affiliated projects include:

  • Consolidated Nuclear Security LLC and its employees at the Pantex Plant in Texas and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee were active in charitable contributions to United Way, educational activities, employee-directed community grants, and sponsorships.
  • The Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant and its employees in Washington state donated to local charities including Second Harvest, United Way, Toys for Tots, and educational institutions.

  • Employees at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant project in Colorado, led by Bechtel National Inc., donated a significant amount to United Way and others including the American Cancer Society, University of Colorado Engineering Project, and community shelters.
