    Ivanpah Solar Project Approved

    The California Energy Commission has approved the construction of BrightSource Energy’s Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System. Bechtel is partnering with BrightSource to build Ivanpah, which will be the world’s largest solar thermal facility, in the Mojave Desert. The commission’s approval is one of several approvals needed before construction can commence.

    WTP Wins Safety Recognition

    The Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) construction site near Richland, Washington, was recently recognized with the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status--the highest level of VPP recognition. Bechtel is designing and building WTP, the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant, for DOE.

    B&W and Bechtel Form Alliance to Commercialize World’s First Generation III++ SMR Nuclear Plant

    Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Energy, Inc., (B&W NE) and Bechtel Power Corporation today announced they have entered into a formal alliance to design, license, and deploy the world’s first commercially viable Generation III++ small modular nuclear power plant. Based on B&W mPower™ small modular reactor (SMR) technology, this new alliance, to be known as Generation mPower, brings together two recognized and established energy industry leaders in engineering, manufacturing and construction. Both Bechtel and B&W are making a substantial commitment in forming Generation mPower. B&W NE is a subsidiary of The Babcock & Wilcox Company.

    Construction Begins on Ras Az Zawr Aluminium Smelter

    Bechtel started construction on Saudi Arabia's first ever aluminium smelter at the Ma’aden minerals industry complex at the Ras Az Zawr Minerals Industrial City. The industry complex is being developed by the Saudi Arabian Mining Company Ma’aden and will also house an alumina refinery and a rolling mill. Bechtel will provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for the aluminium smelter.
