In Saudi Arabia, Bechtel is delivering one of the largest civil engineering projects in the world today Jubail Industrial City. Built from the sand up, Jubail requires vast resources and logistical planning on an unprecedented scale. It comprises ports, a regional highway system, power networks, rail links, housing, industrial areas, and utilities.
Bechtel delivers complex, first-of-a-kind rail projects, including Crossrail, London, UK; Dulles Metro Extension, Virginia, USA; Chunnel, UK and France; High-Speed 1, London, UK; Athens Metro, Athens, Greece; and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), California, USA. Our efforts on some of these projects raised the bar for sustainable rail development.
Bechtel has overseen more than 80 port and harbor projects globally, including 28 in the last decade. Safety, sustainability, and economic viability are integral to our planning and delivery. Bechtel has built three of the world’s leading solar projects, and the cleanest combined-cycle power plants in the United States powering millions of homes and businesses.
Bechtel has delivered more than 1,759 miles (2,831 kilometers) of water pipelines around the world. In Saudi Arabia, we are providing water and wastewater conveyance, processing, and storage systems for six new cities. And, through our Tinto Alcan Backup Tunnel, Canada; and Escondida Water Supply, Chile projects industrial customers are accessing water for their operations without negatively impacting local community supplies.
