    Bechtel Marks A Half-Century Working in the UAE

    Bechtel is celebrating its 50th anniversary of working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this year. From its first project in 1962, the Murban oil field development to Borouge petrochemical complex, Bechtel has been involved with some of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UAE during the last half century. These include Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s largest and busiest airports, as well as a number of major oil and gas, and power projects.

    Bechtel Project Director Reaffirms Commitment to WTP Safety Culture

    Bechtel’s project director at the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant (WTP), also known as the “Vit Plant,” has publicly reaffirmed project leadership’s commitment to ensuring a world-class nuclear safety and quality culture at WTP. Frank Russo provided the assurance during the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) hearing and public meeting on March 22 in Kennewick, Washington. He emphasized that a robust safety culture is essential to building a radioactive waste facility that operates safely and described ongoing efforts to improve the project’s culture.

    Nuclear Industry Leader Joins WTP to Advance Project's Safety Culture

    Bechtel Corporation announced today that Edward "Ward" Sproat is leading a comprehensive effort to advance the nuclear safety and quality culture at the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant (WTP), also known as the "Vit Plant." Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), a member of the Bechtel group of companies, is designing and constructing the Vit Plant.

    Bechtel-Sponsored Teams to Compete in FIRST Robotics Competition

    Eighteen high school teams sponsored by Bechtel are competing in this year’s FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®), a high-tech sporting event featuring robots designed and built by students. Bechtel employees in the United States and Canada mentored students and provided technical guidance as the teams created robots that will compete in basketball games called “Rebound Rumble.”

    Bechtel Project Receives National Safety Award

    Bechtel Corporation announced today the Waste Treatment Plant, also known as the "Vit Plant," received a 2012 Safe-in-Sound award from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the National Hearing Conservation Association. The award honors companies that have demonstrated dedication to hearing loss prevention through workplace programs and practices.

    Bechtel Engineers to Share Wonders of Profession with Young People

    Bechtel Corporation and its employees will celebrate Engineers Week® 2012 by showing young people the significant and fascinating role engineering plays in the world. The company is also a sponsor of this year’s Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day®, the day when thousands of women engineers directly mentor more than one million girls and young women in grades K through 12. Engineers Week, also known as EWeek, is coordinated by the National Engineers Week Foundation and runs February 19-25.

    Bechtel Team Completes Construction of Dulles Rail Tunnel

    The Bechtel-led team building the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, under a contract from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, has successfully completed the tunnel that will carry the future rail line under a portion of Tysons Corner, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C.

    Department of Labor Dismisses Complaint Against Bechtel

    The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has dismissed the complaint Michael Klink filed against Bechtel, saying the evidence did not support Mr. Klink’s claims.

    Bechtel's Motion for Summary Judgement Granted

    A Benton County Superior Court judge in Washington state on January 10 dismissed the case Walt Tamosaitis filed against Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI). This case was the last remaining claim Mr. Tamosaitis had against Bechtel; he previously dropped Bechtel from another case.

    Bechtel's work in Kosovo featured by ENR

    The challenges faced by Bechtel on the Kosovo motorway project are the subject of a special report in Engineering News Record. Bechtel is working on the project in a joint venture with its long term partner Enka. The first 38 kilometers of the highway were opened in November 2011, a year ahead of schedule. Peter Reina, ENR’s Europe Editor visited the project to see the progress being made on this modern highway for the Balkans.
