Y-12, Los Alamos, and Livermore National Labs Receive 13 Awards

Bechtel announced three national security sites managed and operated by teams that include Bechtel have earned a total of 13 National Nuclear Security Administration Sustainability Awards for 2013. The annual awards recognize exemplary performance in advancing sustainability through innovative and effective programs and projects that increase energy, water, and vehicle fleet efficiency as well as reduce greenhouse gases, pollution, and waste.

The Y-12 National Security Complex was honored with six awards―four Best in Class and two Environmental Stewardship. Los Alamos National Laboratory received four awards―two Best in Class and two Environmental Stewardship. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory earned three awards―two Best in Class and one Environmental Stewardship. The National Nuclear Security Administration selected 18 award winners out of 28 submitted nominations.

“The Sustainability Awards reflect Bechtel’s ongoing commitment to a sustainable world through innovative practices and creative solutions while executing these challenging national security missions,” said Craig Albert, president of Bechtel Systems & Infrastructure, Inc., Bechtel’s government services business unit. “Sustainability helps ensure the long-term success of these projects, which ultimately better serves the nation. We work with our customers and team members to ensure that we uphold our commitment and meet our sustainability goals on all our projects.”

Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories and Y-12 are part of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s nuclear security enterprise of facilities that carry out the agency’s mission of ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile. The three sites conduct cutting-edge research related to energy, environment, health, as well as global security, and nonproliferation.

Sustainability is a key focus of Bechtel’s dedication to delivering world-class projects while improving the quality of life in the communities where the company works. From research, to design and construction, to office procedures, Bechtel‘s sustainability practices span multiple areas.  Bechtel’s 2012 efforts were recognized with more than a dozen sustainability awards and positioned the company for continued success in 2013, shown by the additional awards this year.
