Bechtel Enters into Contract with Cheniere for Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project

Bechtel has entered into two lump-sum turnkey contracts with Cheniere Energy, Inc. subsidiary Corpus Christi Liquefaction, LLC for the engineering, procurement, and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trains and related facilities being developed near Corpus Christi, Texas. The Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project is expected to be constructed in stages, with each train commencing operations on a staggered basis. Work under the contract is expected to begin in 2014, subject to Corpus Christi Liquefaction’s reaching a positive final investment decision. Operation of the first LNG train is expected to commence in 2018.

Bechtel to Design and Build Complex Water System for Desert Copper Mine in Chile

Bechtel has been selected by BHP Billiton to provide engineering, project management, and construction services for a system that will bring a sustainable water supply to the Escondida copper mine in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. The project includes construction of a seawater desalination plant at the Caleta Coloso port and the piping and electrical infrastructure needed to transport the water to the mine, 114 miles (185 kilometers) away and 10,170 feet (3,100 meters) above sea level. The mine is operated by Minera Escondida, in which BHP Billiton owns a majority stake.

Bechtel announced three national security sites managed and operated by teams that include Bechtel have earned a total of 13 National Nuclear Security Administration Sustainability Awards for 2013. The annual awards recognize exemplary performance in advancing sustainability through innovative and effective programs and projects that increase energy, water, and vehicle fleet efficiency as well as reduce greenhouse gases, pollution, and waste.

Bechtel and Florida Power & Light Win Nuclear Project of the Year Award

POWER Engineering magazine has awarded Bechtel and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) the 2013 Nuclear Project of the Year Award. The companies won for the extended power uprates at the St. Lucie and Turkey Point nuclear plants, located about 160 miles (257 kilometers) apart on Florida’s Atlantic coast. Together, the work at these plants represents one of the largest uprate projects performed in the history of US commercial nuclear plants.
