29 November 2012
New Section Delivered Ahead of Schedule
Bechtel and its joint venture partner, Enka, delivered an additional 11.5 miles (18.5 kilometers) of the Kosovo “Ibrahim Rugova” Motorway. The new section was completed seven months ahead of schedule and within budget. Since 2010, Bechtel and Enka have delivered 38 miles (61 kilometers) of the motorway, which now connects the Kosovo capital of Pristina and the industrial region of Peja to Morinë on the border with Albania.
“The motorway is a central part of Kosovo’s plan for building the country and its economy. We thank the Kosovan government for an excellent working relationship, which has helped us successfully advance the project,”said Mike Mix, project manager for the Kosovo Motorway, Bechtel-Enka GP.
The motorway is due to be completed in 2013 and will run 63 miles (102 kilometers). It will extend to the north of Pristina and serve as the centerpiece of Kosovo’s national transport system.
Bechtel and Enka have successfully delivered major infrastructure projects in the region, including motorways in Albania, Croatia, and Turkey. They have completed more than 17,398 miles (28,000 kilometers) of highways and roads, 100 tunnels totaling 217.5 miles (350 kilometers) in length, and 25 major bridge projects.
