Bechtel Marks Major Milestone for LNG Projects in Australia

Bechtel announced the first modules for the Curtis Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects have arrived in Gladstone, Australia. The prefabricated steel structures, which weigh a combined total of 7,716 tons (7,000 tonnes), are for the Queensland Curtis LNG facility, one of three facilities Bechtel is building on the island.

Bechtel announced today the company is sponsoring nine teachers and five students participating in a pair of 2012 Ocean Exploration Trust (OET) programs that promote science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education to a global audience. Both the Educator-at-Sea Program and the Honors Research Program combine classroom learning with ocean exploration and provide students with an exciting opportunity to learn more about careers that incorporate STEM.

Ivanpah Solar Project Reaches Halfway Mark and Peak of Construction Employment

NRG Energy, Google, BrightSource Energy and construction partner Bechtel announced that the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System (Ivanpah SEGS) has reached the halfway mark of construction on the world’s largest solar thermal project. Ivanpah has also reached its peak construction workforce, with more than 2,100 construction workers and project support staff on-site. The $2.2 billion project is on-track to be complete in 2013.
