Construction is nearly half complete on the massive waste treatment plant at the former Hanford nuclear site in Washington State. The Department of Energy will use the plant to vitrify radioactive and chemical waste, converting it to a stable form of glass for safe disposal.

Bechtel Construction Company (Bechtel) today announced approval of a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) with the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO and the National Construction Alliance II and all affiliated international unions for Bechtel’s scope of work in the construction of a proposed new nuclear energy facility at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Maryland.
