Bechtel, Fema Begin Work on First Group Housing Site

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) has begun developing the first of more than 50 group housing sites in Mississippi, representing a new, accelerated phase of its Katrina relief work for FEMA. The first group site, in Long Beach, will contain 99 temporary housing units, including travel trailers and manufactured homes, and provide shelter to more than 270 people displaced by the hurricane.

17,000 Mississippi residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina have now moved into emergency housing that Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) has installed and readied for occupancy on FEMA’s behalf.  Yesterday alone, nearly 1,400 residents were housed and 548 new units were readied for occupancy, a new one-day record for FEMA’s relief program.

More than 10,000 Mississippi residents who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina are now in emergency housing provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its contractor in Mississippi, Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI).
