InterGen today announced that Cottonwood, a 1235 megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power facility, has achieved commercial operations and is dispatching into the Entergy power grid. The Cottonwood plant is located approximately two hours due east of Houston, in Deweyville, Texas.

With 87 personnel in offices and camps in Baghdad, Umm Qasr, Basrah, and Al Hillah, Bechtel is progressing with its work on the Iraq reconstruction project. Port of Umm Qasr―Dredging, removal of unexploded ordnance and sunken vessels, and power repair work continue to progress at the port of Umm Qasr. The goal is to accommodate grain-bearing ships by mid-July. In the next two weeks, seven World Food Program vessels with approximately 103,000 tonnes (114,000 tons) of rice and bagged wheat flour are scheduled to arrive at the port.

Bechtel National, Inc. to Host its First Conference for Iraqi Contractors and Suppliers

Bechtel National, Inc. will host in Baghdad Wednesday its first conference for Iraqi contractors and suppliers to inform them of its role in USAID's Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Program and how they might participate. USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios will deliver closing remarks. The June 18 event takes place at the Iraq Forum (Convention Center). Attendees should arrive at 9:00 a.m. in advance of a 10:30 a.m. start to the program. The sessions should continue until about 3:00 that afternoon. No fee will be charged for attendance, and no advance registration is required.
