As 2003 draws to a close, we wanted to give you a snapshot year-end review of some of Bechtel's key accomplishments under the USAID Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Program contract.  

BECHTEL CIVIL SIGNS $2.5 BILLION ROMANIAN MOTORWAY PROJECT

This morning, Bechtel and a joint venture partner signed a $2.5 billion contract with the Romanian Government for the construction of a 415 kilometer motorway.  

BECHTEL/PARSONS BRINCKERHOFF STATEMENT ON POSSIBLE LAWSUIT RELATED TO BOSTON CENTRAL ARTERY/TUNNEL

It has been reported that there may be a lawsuit accusing Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff (B/P) of misleading state officials about the true cost of the project. This accusation is demonstrably false. 

Iraq Project Update to U.S. Congress

Bechtel has provided a status report on its work on the Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Project to members of U.S. Congress. The report includes a description of Bechtel’s outreach to Iraqi subcontractors.

Getting the Facts Straight: Bechtel's Response to Allegations About its Work in Iraq

A number of inaccurate and misleading statements have been made recently regarding Bechtel’s work under the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Iraq, suggesting that Bechtel has won sweetheart deals, overcharged the federal government, and failed to employ Iraqis. These charges simply are not true.  It is important to get the facts straight about such allegations, including those made by Congressman Henry Waxman in a recent letter to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget and subsequent interviews.

Bechtel Helps Rehabilitate 1,153 Iraqi Schools

Under USAID's Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Program, Bechtel and a team of approximately 65 Iraqi subcontractors rehabilitated 1,153 schools in time for the start of the school year.

Bechtel and GE File Arbitration Over Dabhol Power Company

Bechtel Enterprises Holdings, Inc. and GE Structured Finance (GESF) have filed an arbitration action against the Government of India to recover their investments in the Dabhol Power Company (DPC).  The total value of the claim may reach US$600 million for each company and represents their direct investments of approximately US$120 million each and their shares of the market value of DPC specified in the power purchase agreement (PPA) signed by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) and guaranteed by the Government of India.
