Viatel Names Bechtel Construction Project Manager For Ring Three Of The Circe Pan-european Network

Viatel, Inc. (Nasdaq: "VYTL") today was named Bechtel project manager for construction of the third ring of its Circe Pan-European Network. Circe Ring Three will encompass approximately 2,280 route-kilometers and will link the German cities of Essen, Dortmund, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Nurnberg, Munchen, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt, Koln, and Dusseldorf to Rings One and Two.

San Jose-based Calpine Corporation [NYSE: CPN] and San Francisco-based Bechtel Enterprises announced plans to build, own, and operate a new energy center to be located in south San Jose. This project, named the Metcalf Energy Center, will be a 600-megawatt natural gas-fired electric generating facility that will provide clean, reliable energy to residents and businesses in San Jose and the greater Bay Area.

Delta Energy Center Application Is Deemed 'data Adequate' By California Energy Commission

San Jose-based Calpine Corporation [NYSE: CPN] and San Francisco-based Bechtel Enterprises announced that the Application for Certification (AFC) for their joint development project, the Delta Energy Center, has met the California Energy Commission's (CEC) data adequacy requirements. The Energy Commission's data adequacy ruling means that the Delta Energy Center AFC contains sufficient information for the CEC staff to begin their permitting and licensing process and initiates a 12 month technical and environmental review process for the project. Calpine and Bechtel submitted the AFC to the CEC on December 18, 1998.
