Khrc Officially Inaugurated The Testing Of The New Korea High Speed Rail Ktx

The Korea High Speed Rail Construction Authority (KHRC) officially inaugurated the testing of the new Korea High Speed Rail KTX (Korea Train Express) today. The new high-speed trains will operate at a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour. During today's successful trial runs, speeds were clocked at a test limit of just over 200 kilometers per hour. President Kim Dae-jung was joined by overseas and Korean officials at the project's test track in the countryside south of Seoul to observe the tests. Bechtel is working with KHRC as a part of the Integrated Project Management Organization on the Korea High Speed Rail Project.

Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (MAP) has awarded Bechtel Corporation a lump-sum contract for the technology license, design, and construction of a 34,500-barrel-per-day delayed coker at its Garyville refinery in Louisiana. MAP is owned 62 percent by Marathon Oil Company and 38 percent by Ashland Inc.The MAP delayed coker will be the world's largest two-drum coker, with 30-foot-diameter coke drums. Construction is scheduled to be completed in September of 2001.

Bechtel Corporation announced today that Robert W. Dove, Thomas F. Hash, John A. MacDonald, and Ronald F. Naventi have been elected senior vice presidents.Dove, 45, is a managing director of Bechtel Enterprises Holdings, Inc., a wholly owned Bechtel subsidiary, and has primary responsibility for the unit's corporate finance transactions, telecommunications development business, and portfolio of technology venture investments. He is a director of the telecommunications development company, Incepta, as well as the joint development power companies, InterGen and InterGen North America. In addition, Dove is a director of BCN Data Systems, BOLT, Concrete Media, and Blueline Online, all companies in which Bechtel Enterprises has investments. Dove joined Bechtel Enterprises in May 1996 after an extensive career in investment banking.

Bechtel Corporation is entering into a strategic alliance with EquinixSM, Inc. to carry out the largest expansion of Internet interconnection facilities ever contracted. Under the company's $1.2 billion program, Bechtel will build or expand for Equinix more than 30 facilities around the world over the next four years. Equinix and Bechtel will set forth in the final agreement the specific services to be performed by Bechtel at each IBXâ„¢ (Internet Business Exchangeâ„¢) facility location. The IBX facilities will allow content providers, Internet service providers (ISPs), and specialized Internet service companies to install and operate equipment in strategic locations, easing the problems associated with interconnecting disparate systems, services, and networks.
