Equinix And Bechtel Form Strategic Alliance For Global Buildout Of Equinix Ibx™ Facilities To House Internet Core
Bechtel will manage the entire buildout, evaluating sites and existing buildings, providing engineering and design services, procuring materials and equipment, managing construction, and supporting start-up.
"Project owners rely on Bechtel to make first-of-a-kind projects work," said John Carter, Bechtel executive vice president. "We'll apply the same kind of skill and dedication to build Equinix's IBX facilities in short order as we do for our work in civil infrastructure, energy installations, and other areas for which we are traditionally known."
Equinix, based in Redwood City, California, is designing and building the first global, neutral IBX facilities. They will serve as the core of a scalable Internet and IP (Internet Protocol) network for the 21st century. IBX facility design offers customers built-from-the-ground-up colocation with unsurpassed service delivery, unlimited availability of bandwidth from multiple networks, highly scalable interconnection, complete neutrality, and unsurpassed financial-grade security. Content providers, ISPs, carriers, component service providers (CSPs), and application service providers (ASPs) have complete access to the services and customers they require to build and expand their businesses. These IBX facilities will ensure that Equinix customers have maximum network connections, content, and Internet commerce transaction availability now and in the future, while optimizing revenues and reducing operating costs. Equinix customers include MCI WorldCom, Akamai, Teleglobe, RemarQ, NaviNet, and Concentric. For more information, please visit the company's web site at www.equinix.com.
