Bechtel received the prestigious 2014 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Service. The award honors government contractors that have maintained the highest standards for overseeing the protection of the nation’s classified assets in accordance with the National Industrial Security Program.

Department of Energy Voluntary Protection Program Star

Bechtel has once again earned the highest recognition for excellence in safety from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Voluntary Protection Program for the company’s work at the Waste Treatment Plant project on the historic Hanford Site in Washington state. This marks the second time the project has achieved Star status in the program, which recognizes contractors and employees who demonstrate outstanding achievement in safety and health—above and beyond U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards. In particular, the program focuses on grassroots, employee-led safety programs as well as manager involvement and follow-through.

RFID Journal has recognized Bechtel with its Best RFID Implementation Award for the company’s groundbreaking use of the tagging technology. Bechtel is using thousands of active radio frequency identification tags to manage construction materials for the three liquefied natural gas projects the company is building on Curtis Island in Queensland, Australia.

Bechtel was awarded a CETI Award for the company’s innovative use of RFID technology on the liquefied natural gas projects Bechtel is building on Curtis Island in Queensland, Australia. The CETI Awards honor individuals and companies that have conducted new and emerging technology implementations and are awarded by Fiatech, an international group dedicated to the global development and adoption of innovative practices and technologies. Bechtel received the award in the Intelligent and Automated Construction Jobsite category.

Three Bechtel government projects―Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories and the Y-12 National Security Complex―won 13 out of 18 sustainability excellence awards presented by the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration, including eight best-in-class designations. Each site earned these honors for exemplary efforts to improve energy, water, and vehicle-fleet efficiency as well as reduce greenhouse gases, pollution, and waste. Bechtel is proud of our partnership with these customers and our joint commitment to best serve the United States now and for future generations.

POWER Engineering magazine has awarded Bechtel and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) the 2013 Nuclear Project of the Year Award. The companies won for the extended power uprates at the St. Lucie and Turkey Point nuclear plants, located about 160 miles (257 kilometers) apart on Florida’s Atlantic coast. Together, the work at these plants represents one of the largest uprate projects performed in the history of US commercial nuclear plants.

Bechtel was named the 2012 Safety Contractor of the Year by Chevron Corporation’s Project Resources Company. Bechtel was recognized for best-in-class safety performance on the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project, a two-train liquefied natural gas and domestic gas plant in Western Australia. Bechtel is delivering design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the project’s downstream scope for Chevron.
