General Manager, Infrastructure – Asia Pacific Principal Vice President
Ged Silva is the general manager for the Asia Pacific region for Bechtel’s Infrastructure business unit. In this role, he oversees active projects and leads business strategy for the aviation, rail, civil, power, and telecommunications sectors in the region.
During his 30-year Bechtel career, Ged has held leadership roles throughout its functions, projects, and organization—including in three of Bechtel’s four global business units.
Ged relocated from the U.K. to Australia in 1995 to join the Mining & Metals (M&M) business in Brisbane, working on several aluminum smelter projects in engineering, construction, and start-up roles and in-plant services. Later he joined the Oil, Gas & Chemicals business unit to lead the engineering on the Alba Line 5 Aluminum Smelter in Bahrain, the Sohar Aluminum Smelter in Oman, the Alumina Project in Guinea, and the Worsley Alumina Project in Western Australia.
Ged returned to the M&M business as the manager of engineering in Australia during a period of unprecedented growth. Roles as the Asia Pacific EPC Functions manager and general manager for the Europe, Africa, and Middle East region followed.
Since joining the Infrastructure business in 2019, Ged has focused on supporting customers on two of Australia’s largest transportation projects: the expansion of the Sydney Metro by building the first train tunnels under Sydney Harbour, and the construction of a new international airport in Western Sydney.
Ged earned a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from the De Montfort University in Leicester, U.K., and obtained his chartered engineering status in 1993.
