Senior Vice President General Manager, Infrastructure - Europe, Africa and the Middle East
Mike Wilkinson is a Senior Vice President of Bechtel Corporation and is the General Manager for Europe, Africa and the Middle East for Bechtel’s Infrastructure global business unit.
Mike was previously Bechtel’s Regional President and General Manager for Asia Pacific and was based in Singapore. In that role, Mike had oversight of and accountability for Bechtel’s rail and aviation projects in Australia, Bechtel’s execution offices in Taiwan and New Delhi, and Bechtel’s growing business throughout Asia.
Mike joined Bechtel in 2004 as the Principal Counsel for the Mining & Metals global business unit (“M&M”). He headed a global team that provided support to M&M across their worldwide operations including structuring and negotiating deals, supporting projects in execution, and managing claims. Some of the projects Mike worked on include aluminium smelters in Iceland, Canada and Saudi Arabia; bauxite mines in Australia; alumina refineries in Australia; copper projects in Chile, Peru and PNG; iron ore projects in Canada; and coal mines and export terminals in Australia.
From 2011 to 2012, Mike was the executive assistant to Bechtel’s President and Chief Operating Officer, based in the US. From 2013 to 2017, he was Bechtel’s Global Head of Bechtel Risk Management, based in London and responsible for risk financing, project risk management, enterprise protection, insurance and insured litigation and claims.
Before joining Bechtel, Mike was a partner in a leading Australian international law firm. Mike worked in Australia and London, specialising in greenfield and brownfield projects and privatisations. His experience covered the road, rail, water, power, ports, mining and defence industries and various project delivery structures including D&C, EPC, EPCM, and PFI/PPP. He worked in Australia, Indonesia, China, the UK, Europe, and India.
Mike holds Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degrees from the University of Queensland, Australia.
