Suggestions for Scout Leaders

The BSA Merit Badge program is a wonderful opportunity for Scouts to learn about different subjects and professions, and to possibly become interested in a subject which may later develop into a career. Bechtel’s program consists of the Scout doing "pre-work" and submitting certain requirements for registration, followed by the Counselor taking care of the rest of the requirements with the Scouts on class day.  It is recommended (but not mandatory) that a troop leader or parent (who has expertise in the given area), work with the Scouts to give them added preparation for the relevant merit badge class. It's just an added advantage for the Scout to be able to learn more about the subject, and it's good for the younger Scouts to have someone check with to make sure that they are submitting the proper pre-work.

Also please have your blue cards completely filled out (all required entries). In previous years, we lost a lot of time waiting for the Scouts to write down their names, addresses, and other information, while others were waiting for the next class to start.

Thank you for your interest. We are trying to make this program a successful one, and look forward to you helping us and the Scouts accomplish this. We enjoy doing this each year, and look forward to seeing you in February. Happy Scouting!
