I’m responsible for construction management of one of the four areas on the New Doha International Airport project in Qatar. My job is to effectively deliver construction packages while ensuring and maintaining a high standard of environment, health, and safety on site.
My biggest challenge is working on some of the largest construction projects in the world, as well as coordinating work between construction, contracts, project controls, and other fields. We try to do things safer, better, and more effectively even on a tight schedule, in addition to managing small details while keeping sight of the big picture.
My favorite assignment at Bechtel was my first one, working on the Croatian Motorway. It was also in many ways a first for Bechtel, and we managed to build this incredibly complex project in a relatively short time. We worked as a team in a great multicultural environment, and many of us are still in contact. It really helps when you can, in the middle of a meeting, call a colleague halfway around the planet just to get advice.
