Planetary Resources, Inc. announced today that Bechtel has joined their core group of investors and will be a collaborative partner in helping Planetary Resources achieve its long-term mission, which is to mine near-Earth asteroids for raw materials, ranging from elements used in rocket fuel to precious metals, through the development of innovative and cost-effective robotic exploration technologies. Currently, Planetary Resources has multiple contracts to develop miniaturized and responsive technologies with far-reaching applications to space assessment, accessibility and resource recovery.

Bechtel and Network Rail Safely Deliver Ambitious Project in Record Time
Bechtel and Network Rail have successfully completed the most ambitious part of a $1.37 billion (£895 million) program to remodel Reading railway station and the surrounding track. The upgrade, which was started late at night on March 28 and finished early morning on April 8, 2013, was the biggest simultaneous commissioning of new track, signaling, and infrastructure works in Network Rail’s history.

Bechtel Awarded EPC Contract for Third Panda Power Project in Texas
Bechtel announced today that the company has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the Panda Temple II Generating Station, a 758-megawatt natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle power plant in Temple, Texas, south of Dallas. This is the third power facility to be built by Bechtel and consortium partner Siemens for Panda Power Funds.

Bechtel Achieves Key Construction Milestone at Chemical Weapons Destruction Plant
Bechtel announced today the Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass team has completed on schedule installation of major structural steel into the Munitions Demilitarization Building (MDB) at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP). The MDB is the largest and most complex facility at BGCAPP, which will safely destroy the chemical weapons stockpile at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond, Kentucky. Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass is the contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense’s Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (ACWA) program to design, build, systemize, test, operate, and close the plant.

Bechtel Donates $250,000 for New STEM School in Washington State
Bechtel has donated $250,000 to fund the new Delta High School, a public school focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The gift was made to the Washington State STEM Education Foundation, which is leading the effort to build the new school in the Tri-Cities area. The new school is being funded through a public-private partnership.

Bechtel Acquires Chevron's Waste Water Treatment Technology
Bechtel announced today the company has purchased Chevron’s Waste Water Treatment (WWT) Process, a technology that improves the efficiency of petroleum refineries. The WWT Process is a proprietary, two-stage sour water stripping process that separates ammonia and hydrogen sulfide streams from sour waters generated by a refinery’s process units. The technology also allows debottlenecking of sulfur plants and can reduce the cost of new sulfur units, especially in refineries that process high nitrogen crudes.

Bechtel's Port Expert Featured on BBC World Service's 'The Forum'
Bechtel's port expert, Marco Pluijm, was featured on BBC World Service’s The Forum program on January 26, 2013. The theme of the show, hosted by the BBC‘s Diplomatic Correspondent Bridget Kendall, was, "Connections with the Sea" and Marco was a panelist. He talked about designing ports of the future and the Bechtel-led research that will make ports safe, as well as a proposal for multi-user hub ports in Africa.

Bechtel Awarded Landmark Offshore Transmission Project
The Atlantic Wind Connection has selected Bechtel to be the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for the New Jersey Energy Link, the first offshore electricity transmission system to be built in the United States. Alstom will be the key equipment supplier for the landmark project, which will link energy resources and users in northern, central, and southern New Jersey.

Bechtel has been selected by Anadarko Moçambique Area 1, Limitada to perform a front end engineering and design (FEED) for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in the Republic of Mozambique. This is the first LNG project in the country.

Bechtel-Led Team Awarded Contract for Y-12/Pantex
A Bechtel-led team was selected today by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to manage and operate the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS), a team that includes Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Lockheed Martin, ATK, and SOC, will manage and operate the facilities within NNSA’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. The five-year contract with NNSA includes options that may extend the contract term up to an additional five years, based on performance.
