    Bechtel Recognizes Companies for Superior Performance on Government Projects

    Bechtel has recognized 19 companies for outstanding work on government projects with the annual Bechtel Systems and Infrastructure Subcontractor and Supplier Recognition Awards. The awards honor subcontractors and suppliers that supported Bechtel‘s government services business unit in work such as environmental cleanup, national security science, construction, facility startup, and nuclear security and operations during 2013.

    Bechtel’s Dulles Transit Partners Achieves Substantial Completion of Silver Line

    Bechtel announced that Dulles Transit Partners has achieved substantial completion of Phase 1 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, also known as the Silver Line. The Bechtel-led team built the 11.7-mile rail line that will connect to the Washington, D.C., region’s existing metro system for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

    Bechtel Corporate Quality Manager to Lead Quality Program at Hanford Nuclear Project

    Bechtel announced that Michael Costas, head of the company’s corporate quality function, is joining the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant leadership team to lead quality, engineering, procurement, and other key functions on the project. Bechtel is designing and building the plant in Washington state to safely treat and package 56 million gallons of radioactive waste for the U.S. Department of Energy.

    Bechtel Takes Top Honor for Innovative Use of RFID Technology

    RFID Journal has recognized Bechtel with its Best RFID Implementation Award for the company’s groundbreaking use of the tagging technology. Bechtel is using thousands of active radio frequency identification tags to manage construction materials for the three liquefied natural gas projects the company is building on Curtis Island in Queensland, Australia. The RFID Journal Awards recognize excellence in the creation and use of radio frequency identification technologies.

    Bechtel Wins Prestigious Engineering and Technology Innovation Award

    Bechtel has won a CETI Award for the company’s innovative use of RFID technology on the liquefied natural gas projects Bechtel is building on Curtis Island in Queensland, Australia. The CETI Awards honor individuals and companies that have conducted new and emerging technology implementations and are awarded by Fiatech, an international group dedicated to the global development and adoption of innovative practices and technologies. Bechtel received the award in the Intelligent and Automated Construction Jobsite category.

    Bechtel-Led Team Selected to Build Hydroelectric Power Plant in Manitoba, Canada

    A Bechtel-led team, BBE Hydro Constructors Limited Partnership, has been awarded a contract worth approximately CAD $1.4 billion by Manitoba Hydro to build the Keeyask Generating Station on the lower Nelson River in northern Manitoba, Canada. The Keeyask Generating Station will have a 695-megawatt capacity and produce on average 4,400 gigawatt hours of electricity—enough to power 400,000 homes. The team, which comprises Bechtel, Barnard Construction, and EllisDon, expects to start construction on the project later this year, subject to regulatory approvals.

    U.S. Government Reaffirms Selection of Bechtel-Led Team to Manage Y-12 & Pantex

    The Bechtel-led Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC has been directed by the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration to immediately resume transitioning to take over the management and operation of the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Consolidated Nuclear Security was selected last year to manage and operate the nuclear security facilities but the transition was put on hold while the contract award was reviewed by the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

    Bechtel to Provide Management Services for Delivery of Largest Deep-water Port in US

    Bechtel, a global leader in planning, designing, and building port and marine projects, has been selected by LIGTT Project Company LLC to provide management services for the pre-construction of the Louisiana International Gulf Transfer Terminal. The innovative new cargo transfer terminal off Louisiana’s Gulf Coast will be the largest deep-water port in the United States and will cater to the new classes of larger, more economical ships. The port will enhance America’s international trade capabilities. LIGTT Project Company expects the new port to generate more than 33,000 jobs in Louisiana and Mississippi.

    Bechtel’s ThruPlus® Coking Technology Selected for Croatian Refinery

    Bechtel has signed a license agreement with INA Industrija Nafte, d.d. for the process design of a delayed coking unit complex at the Rijeka refinery in Urinj, Croatia. The new complex will use Bechtel’s ThruPlus® coking technology, a proprietary process for upgrading heavy oil into high-value, light hydrocarbon liquids.

    Bechtel-Built Ivanpah Achieves Commercial Operation

    Bechtel announced that the 377-megawatt Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is now operational and delivering electricity to California customers. The solar-thermal facility, which is the world’s largest, features three 450-foot-high towers that produce enough clean, renewable electricity to power 140,000 homes. Bechtel provided engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up services for the project. Ivanpah, located in the Mojave Desert of Southern California, is a joint effort of NRG, Google, and BrightSource Energy.

    Bechtel-led Team Surpasses 75 Percent Mark on Weapons Disposal Project Construction

    Bechtel announced that construction of the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant’s main plant facilities is now more than 75 percent complete. Bechtel leads the team, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass, that is building the pilot plant for the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office, Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA) program. When finished and fully tested, the facility will safely destroy the stockpile of chemical nerve-agent weapons stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot outside Richmond, Kentucky.
