Bechtel once again has been named one of the world’s top contractors by Engineering News-Record (ENR), a leading publication for the engineering and construction industry. The company ranked third on the magazine’s Top 250 International Contractors list, the same as last year, and ninth on the Top 250 Global Contractors list, one spot up from last year. On both lists, Bechtel was the highest-ranked company headquartered in the United States.

Bechtel Puts LNG Tanks to the Test on Curtis Island Projects
Bechtel has successfully hydro tested two additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks built on Curtis Island in Queensland. The tests confirm that the tanks built for the Australia Pacific LNG and Santos GLNG plants are ready to store LNG and follow the successful test of a tank at the Queensland Curtis LNG project earlier this year. Bechtel is the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for the plants, being built simultaneously side-by-side.

Bechtel Announces Leadership Changes
Bechtel, one of the world’s leading engineering, construction, and project management organizations, announced today that Brendan Bechtel will become president and chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors of Bechtel Group, Inc. He will report to Bill Dudley, the company’s chief executive officer. Bechtel, son of Chairman of the Board Riley Bechtel, is the fifth generation of the Bechtel family to become president of the 116-year-old firm.

Bechtel Delivers One of the Largest Infrastructure Construction Projects in the US
Tens of thousands of people in the Washington, D.C. region are now travelling on the newest rail line built by a Bechtel-led team. Phase 1 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, also known as the Silver Line, consists of 11.7 miles of track and five stations, and connects to the region’s existing metro system. It opened to the public July 26.

Bechtel announced today that researchers from two U.S. national laboratories managed and operated by Bechtel partnerships have earned six 2014 R&D 100 Awards, known as the Oscars® of Invention. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory teams collected four awards and Los Alamos National Laboratory teams received two. R&D Magazine gives the awards to recognize the top 100 technology products of the year, honoring cutting-edge scientific and engineering technologies with commercial potential.

Bechtel and Network Rail Deliver Major Expansion of Reading Station on Schedule
Bechtel and Network Rail have successfully completed the massive expansion of Reading train station—one of the busiest stations outside London—on schedule and within budget. The work was carried out over four years as a major part of the $1.5 billion (£895 million) Reading Station Area Redevelopment program. The track layout outside Reading station has been improved to ease congestion and the station’s capacity has been doubled allowing it to cater for up to 30 million passengers a year, which is forecast by 2030. The new station is being formally opened today by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
