Bechtel has begun construction on BP’s West Nile Delta onshore gas processing terminal at Idku City, north east of Alexandria, Egypt. When completed, the facility will provide processing capacity for more than one billion cubic feet of gas per day, equivalent to approximately one quarter of Egypt’s current output.
BP selected Bechtel to execute a fast-track engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning program for a greenfield gas processing facility that will tie into a modified existing one. As part of the contract work, Bechtel already successfully completed front-end engineering and design and early site works, and is continuing with detailed engineering and procurement of major equipment as construction starts. The new combined facility will receive and process gas from offshore fields so it can be distributed to the Egyptian energy market.

The West Nile Delta project will create an important legacy for the local community, with a peak direct and indirect workforce estimated at more than 5,000 people and a focus on upskilling programs for subcontractors and suppliers.
