Bechtel Names Five New Bechtel Fellows

Bechtel Fellows, a select group of 18 experts in science and technology who have made outstanding contributions to the company and their professions.
 
Bechtel Fellows are industry experts in key technologies including structural analysis, seismology, environmental engineering, and computer networking. "Fellows help keep us at the forefront of technical innovation and serve as technical advisors to senior management," said Bechtel Chairman and Chief Executive Riley Bechtel. "They play a key role in enhancing our technical reputation and make significant contributions to professional societies, code committees, advisory councils, and international conferences—as well as to our customers."  

The new fellows:  

August D. Benz, a 51-year Bechtel veteran who holds five U.S. patents in technologies ranging from coal grinding to destruction of dangerous materials. Benz has been a technical leader and innovator on numerous "first of a kind" projects that have won industrial awards for process excellence. He holds five U.S. patents covering a range of technologies, from a process for selective grinding of coal to the destruction of dangerous materials.   

Sanj Malushte, a specialist in engineering mechanics and earthquake engineering. An acknowledged expert in standards and codes, Malushte has played a key role helping the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and other standards organizations and professional societies develop new design codes for industrial structures. In the United States, he is a nationally recognized authority in seismic isolation research.  

Cyrus B. Meher-Homji, an internationally recognized expert in the design and development of large turbomachinery and gas turbines, with 25 years of experience in the consulting and EPC industries. At Bechtel, he has helped provide the technical basis for the company's success in the fast-growing market for liquefied natural gas (LNG) handling facilities. He also is an expert in turbomachinery failure analysis.  

Stewart Taylor, a specialist in geotechnical and hydraulic engineering. He is world-renowned for his expertise in soil and groundwater remediation and has been published in more than 50 publications, including books and peer-review journals. Taylor led the initiative to create a groundwater division within the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has also served as an expert witness in litigation involving complex groundwater issues.  

Fred Wettling, a nationally acclaimed leader in applying new technology in the workplace. He has helped develop and adapt information technology and has applied it to make Bechtel's networks both world-class and cost-effective. He has been quoted extensively in major IT industry publications, and Network World has named him one of the most powerful people in networking for the past two years.
