Bechtel Manages Successful Launch Of Pcs Network In Jackson, Mississippi

Bechtel's responsibilities on the project involved coordinating the RF engineering and site acquisition activities as well as managing the engineering firms, construction companies, and all third-party material suppliers to ensure that a cost-effective, quality network was deployed in the most efficient timeframe possible. In addition to managing the implementation of the wireless facilities, Bechtel was also responsible for managing the construction of the switch facility to support the Jackson network. "Without the disciplined approach and leadership implemented by the Bechtel project team, we would not have been able to achieve this buildout as efficiently and as effectively as we have," stated Billy Mounger, chairman and chief executive officer for Tritel.

In addition to the Jackson network, Bechtel is also responsible for providing the aforementioned services for Tritel networks being built in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee through the second quarter of 2000. "We are extremely pleased to be working with the entire Tritel organization. It's a world class organization that is motivated and determined to be successful. We are committed to making sure that they achieve all of their network deployment objectives. The achievement of this Jackson milestone was truly a team effort and the first of many milestones to come," said Lester Hurst, principal vice president and general manager of Bechtel Telecommunications--North America.

A privately held firm since 1898, Bechtel has provided engineering, procurement, construction, and management services on 20,000 projects for customers in 140 nations on all seven continents. Bechtel's telecommunications line of business has emerged as a leader in the telecommunications network deployment market by providing these services to companies implementing both wireless and wireline networks on a global basis. Bechtel's 1998 revenues totaled more than $12 billion.
