The firm that Mr. Bechtel ran from 1933 to 1960 is this year celebrating its centennial. Saluting the organization's accomplishments, including many associated with Steve Bechtel, Sr., the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., has mounted an exhibit called "The Business of Innovation: Projects from Bechtel's First Century." An online digest of the exhibit, which runs through January 4, 1999, can be found at www.nbm.org.

Since 1898, four generations of Bechtels have led the privately held business through 19,000 projects in 140 nations on all seven continents. Revenues for 1997 totaled US$11.3 billion. Bechtel's web site (bechtel.com) provides abundant information about the Bechtel of today as well as the accomplishments of Steve Bechtel, Sr.
