Bechtel Elects Two Board Members

January 5, 1998 Bechtel has elected two new board members—Alan Dachs and Mike Thiele.Alan Dachs has been elected to the Bechtel Group board of directors and by the Bechtel Enterprises board of directors to its executive committee. Dachs is president and chief executive officer of The Fremont Group, the San Francisco-based private investment company in which the Bechtel family retains a majority interest. With more than $7 billion in assets under management, Fremont had its best year ever in 1996. Dachs has served on the board of Bechtel Enterprises, Bechtel's finance, development, and ownership affiliate, since 1994. He also serves on the board of trustees of the Washington D.C.-based Brookings Institution and chairs the board of trustees of Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

Mike Thiele has also been elected to the Bechtel Group board. Thiele, president of Bechtel's pipeline unit and a Bechtel senior vice president, is recognized internationally as a leader in the pipeline business. Thiele has been associated with many of the world's most difficult—and successful—pipeline projects. With nearly 35 years of experience in that field, Thiele has served a number of leading industry organizations as an officer, including the International Pipeline Contractors Association and the International Pipeline & Offshore Contractors Association. He served the latter as president.
