My professor at Texas A&M (a former Bechtel employee) encouraged me to interview with Bechtel at a career fair. I was hired in October of my last year in college and joined the company in June 2006, a month after graduating. I am based in Houston.
So far, I have been involved in development of three power projects that will use integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) technology to lower emissions. I am currently working as a planner on the Edwardsport project in Indiana.
In Project Controls, we work with engineers and field personnel to set a project’s baseline schedule. We also analyze changes in scope and deliverables to make sure that projects are completed on time.
The prospect of building state-of-the-art facilities really excites me. Since joining Bechtel, I have learned about IGCC, carbon sequestration, and other new technologies that will help society and the environment. My goal is to gain field experience and exposure to other aspects of Bechtel’s business, with the aim of some day becoming a project manager.
