After working on High Speed 1—the UK’s first high-speed rail line—I was assigned to work in business development on the successful tender for the Crossrail project and then onto a delivery role on the project. Crossrail is an exciting project that will include a 21-kilometer rail tunnel beneath central London. My responsibilities include promoting aligned performance through the management team, writing project execution plans, and setting up processes and procedures to aid the start up of the project.

My job puts me in contact with the entire project team. In fact, after just two weeks, there was no one I had not talked to. The possibility of taking on a lot of responsibility early—within a relatively small team—has allowed me to develop quickly and prioritise the areas in which I would like to be involved. Being a part of a project that carries such high expectations is exhilarating, and being there right from the start means that I can see first-hand the process from development to implementation.

I hope to further my progress at Bechtel by first attaining my Chartership and eventually move into a position with the responsibility to deliver a megaproject.
