Cross-Country Challenge
Trinidad may be a tropical paradise, but it's no easy place to build a pipeline.
Trinidad isn't much larger than Rhode Island, the smallest of the United States. Yet this Caribbean island, nestled just off the coast of Venezuela, looms large as a major supplier of liquefied natural gas.
Global by Design
In an international marketplace, Bechtel's office in New Delhi, India, plays a key role.
Whether it's a liquefied natural gas facility in Australia, an aluminum smelter in Iceland, or a power plant in Arizona, Bechtel's big industrial projects these days tend to have one thing in common: much of the engineering is performed by the company's fast-growing office in New Delhi, India.
Gothic Revival
Meticulous renovation is preparing London's historic St. Pancras train station for the future.
"There is no other building, in London or anywhere else, that embodies more precisely the achievement of mid-Victorian Britain. It reflects the skill, boldness, and certainty of the mid-Victorian engineer."
Ready, Set, Restart
In Southern California, a big power project heads toward completion after a two-year hiatus.
In 2001, work began on the 1,000-megawatt Mountainview natural gas-fired power plant in Redlands, California. It was one of a number of new facilities intended to ease the energy shortage that had caused rolling blackouts throughout the state that year.
