As a project controls engineer with Bechtel Communications, I’ve helped improve the process of tracking change orders, work orders, and work authorizations for Cingular’s northeast U.S. region. As a field engineer on the Waste Treatment Plant project at Hanford, Washington, I worked on constructability issues, pressure testing pipe, material receipt inspection, quantity tracking, and creating and maintaining work packages.
The biggest challenge at the telecoms project is managing complexity; there are many things we have to track for each cellular site that is built.
Although I have been on only two projects so far at Bechtel, I’ve already had the opportunity to work in multiple groups, such field engineering and project controls. These opportunities have been invaluable in expanding my knowledge of construction.
