LNG: Preparing for an Overseas Voyage

LNG is natural gas that has been cooled into liquid with a temperature of about minus 160 degrees Celsius. In this state it takes up 600 times less volume, allowing great quantities of it to be transported to distant markets.

With demand for energy surging worldwide, use of LNG is rapidly growing. Large liquefaction facilities are developed close to sites with abundant gas supplies. The LNG is then transported via specially engineered ocean tankers to regasification terminals at recipient locations.
