Bill Dudley, 59, is president, chief operating officer, and a director of Bechtel Group, Inc.
Bill joined Bechtel in 1981. He worked on several petroleum and chemical projects, eventually rising to the role of project controls manager for the Houston regional office. In the mid-1990s, he served as general manager of the pipeline business in Asia, country manager for Thailand, and regional executive for Southeast Asia. He was elected a senior vice president in 1997.
In 1998, Bill relocated to London as general manager of Bechtel’s energy operations for a region covering Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia. Within a year he was named regional president.
In 2000, he was elected to the Bechtel Group board of directors, and the following year he became president of the company’s Petroleum & Chemical business unit. In 2004, he consolidated that unit with pipeline and industrial operations, forming the Oil, Gas & Chemicals unit, which has led the company’s performance over the past several years.
In 2007, he assumed the role of executive vice president. He became president and chief operating officer in April 2008.
Bill holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Houston. He is a member of the Civil Engineering Advisory Council at Purdue.
