This marks the 14th consecutive year that Bechtel has ranked first. Bechtel has also been ranked first on the following specialized lists:

British Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Communities and Local Government awarded Channel Tunnel Rail Link: High Speed 1 the top prize in planning. Bechtel was a member of the consortium responsible for design and project and construction management of HS1. Bechtel BWXT Idaho received the U.S. Department of Energy's 2009 Management and Operations Small Business Achievement of the Year Award. The award recognizes contractors for procuring goods and services from small businesses and for having polices and programs that promote use of small businesses. In fiscal year 2009, more than 80 percent of Bechtel BWXT Idaho's available dollars for subcontracting opportunities went to small businesses.

Voluntary Protection Program Star

The Waste Treatment Plant project construction site in Hanford, Washington, has earned Star Status—the highest recognition in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Voluntary Protection Program. The program promotes safety and health excellence through cooperative efforts among labor, management, and government at DOE contractor sites.

Bechtel recognized for its work on the Shell Scotford Upgrader Expansion project in Fort Saskatchewan. The award honors leadership in the development, innovation, and implementation of safety practices that result in significant improvement in safety performance.

U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program

Bechtel’s Pueblo Chemical Depot chemical weapons elimination project in Colorado received the highest level of recognition from the program. Read article in the The Pueblo Chieftain.

September 2008
Bechtel SAIC Company, LLC received the department’s highest safety award for its management and operation of the Yucca Mountain project. Sustainable Development

Pollution Prevention Awards (P2)
U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which is managed and operated by a team led by Bechtel and the University of California, received two Pollution Prevention Awards from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. The awards are given based on a competition among NNSA facilities and acknowledge pollution prevention, recycling, and affirmative procurement accomplishments. Bechtel’s work with the Iron Ore Company of Canada on the Tailings Management project helped IOC achieve the award, which honors progress toward sustainable solutions in the Canadian minerals industry. Read the press release.

 

Technical Excellence

Superior Technical Achievement Recognition
FIATECH
May 2011
FIATECH, an industry consortium that promotes the use of emerging automated technologies on capital construction projects, presented its Superior Technical Achievement Recognition (STAR) award to Bechtel, for its broad engagement and hands-on involvement in the organization. The STAR awards have previously recognized only individuals, making this the first time that a company has been so honored. Bechtel has been a member of FIATECH since 2001.
