Michael D. Wilkinson

Mike Wilkinson is a Senior Vice President of Bechtel Corporation and General Manager, Asia Pacific. 

Prior to his current role, Mike was the Global Head of Bechtel Risk Management, based in London.  Bechtel’s Risk Management department is responsible for risk financing, project risk management, enterprise and project insurance and insured litigation and claims.  Prior to his current role, Mike was the executive assistant to the President and Chief Operating Officer based in the US.

Mike joined Bechtel in 2004 as the Principal Counsel for the Mining & Metals global business unit (“M&M GBU”).  He headed a team, based in Australia, Chile and the US, who provided support to the M&M GBU across their worldwide operations including structuring and negotiating deals, supporting projects in execution and managing claims.  Some of the projects Mike worked on include aluminium smelters in Iceland, Canada and Saudi Arabia, bauxite mines in Australia, alumina refineries in Australia, copper projects in Chile, Peru and PNG, iron ore projects in Canada, and coal mines and export terminals in Australia. 

Before joining Bechtel, Mike was a partner in a leading Australian international law firm.  Mike worked in Australia and London, specializing in greenfield and brownfield projects and privatisations. His experience covered the road, rail, water, power, ports, mining and defence industries and various project delivery structures including D&C, EPC, EPCM, and PFI/PPP.  He worked on projects in, or for clients from, Australia, Indonesia, China, the UK, Europe, and India, working largely for Government / State owned enterprises and developers. 

Mike has Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degrees from the University of Queensland.
